WEATHERFORD OPPORTUNITY WORKSHOP
The Weatherford Opportunity Workshop is an example of a classic win-win
situation. The workshop's business plan outlines how, by training
persons with developmental disabilities, they are also improving the
environment and reducing landfill use. The Workshop's purpose is to
train its clients to obtain and keep a job outside the workshop and to
gain the necessary self-esteem and confidence to live, work and play
independently in the community and in the world of the non-disabled.
The primary business of the workshop is recycling.
The workshop has partnered with the cities of Weatherford and
Clinton to collect and recycle cardboard and paper within the two
cities. The towns have placed bins throughout their commercial
districts and the workshop collects the materials on a regular pickup
schedule and prepares them for recycling. The success of this operation
in waste reduction is unquestioned. The job it gets done here in terms
of life-changing education is truly what makes THE WEATHERFORD OPPORTUNITY WORKSHOP BRILLIANT NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA'S ENVIRONMENT.
