Long after Ardmore’s Walker Stadium was built, the
people were still coming, but the stadium was badly in need of repairs.
It was being considered for condemnation, but there was no other
athletic facility in town. Two Ardmore men, attorney Glen Burns and
restaurant owner Phil Tabor, dreamed of a way to rebuild the stadium,
and they pursued their dream with unbridled enthusiasm. They gathered
the financial support of 1000 local contributors who gave an astounding
4.85 million private dollars to the rebuilding project. They rallied
the help of countless volunteers who helped install the beautiful
landscaping outside the stadium.
Today, the landscaping is diligently and lovingly maintained
by volunteers. You will often find Glen Burns himself, carefully mowing
and pruning the green spaces around the athletic field. And the Ardmore
Tigers have a beautiful, comfortable, and exciting place to play and
watch football. Ardmore’s Field of Dreams became a reality through the
dreams of a few and the hard work of many... AND THAT COMMUNITY EFFORT IS GREAT NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S ENVIRONMENT!
