Trent Frederick is not only a young man with a
creative vision; he also is an environmentalist of the first order.
Worried about the animals whose habitat was being destroyed by a street
widening project, this 4-H’er first sought and got a tree-planting
grant for a thousand-square-foot area, then used it and his own
wildlife survey to secure listings as an Oklahoma Certified Wildscape
and a National Backyard Wildlife Habitat.
ambitious young man didn’t stop there. For each of nine consecutive
months, he conducted an activity to advance his newly named 4-H Trail
of Dreams Outdoor Classroom. By June, his Broken Arrow classroom
consisted of 10 plots, each cleverly related to a 4-H area. A total of
about 50 native Oklahoma plants are wonderfully presented.
The judges said they were blown away by his independence and work ethic. We happily concur that TRENT FREDERICK AND HIS URBAN WILDLIFE REFUGE IS GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL NEEDS!
