In most places, it's not front page news when
students volunteer to beautify their community, but in Newkirk that's a
common honor they receive from the Newkirk Herald Journal.
The newspaper and Wayne White, its editor, put an emphasis
on youth and on educating the public about environmental issues and
beautification opportunities. When that spotlight
shines on the Newkirk Junior Main Street program, the result is
wonderful recognition and encouragement for the young environmental
stewards to continue their efforts.
Our judges say, "The community should be very grateful for
this newspaper that involves the youth" of the community. We agree and
we're happy to proclaim that the Newkirk Herald Journal is good news -
in more ways than one - for environmentally aware and responsible kids
in Oklahoma.
