City of Oklahoma City and OKC Beautiful - Population greater than 100,000
When an annual volunteer effort manages to quadruple
its forces from one year to the next, you just know some outstanding
work has gone on behind the scenes. Such was the case this spring with
Litter Blitz, the six-week anti-litter program of OKC Beautiful and the
City of Oklahoma City.
By focusing on community partnerships and volunteerism,
especially with existing neighborhood groups, 120 teams with more than
5,000 participants collected at least one bag of litter per person. A
Donald W. Reynolds Foundation grant allowed the creation of engaging
public service announcements to stir up interest and to keep everything
clean throughout the year.
Our
judges called it a winning combination of media exposure and
enthusiastic local business support. We call it Oklahoma City's proud
and proven example of good news for a litter-free Oklahoma.
