"This land is your land" was demonstrated in a
wonderful new way this summer at Okemah's annual Woody Guthrie Folk
Festival when the city teamed up with the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality to showcase recycling.
With the cooperation of The Met, Midland Recycling and Abitibi
Consolidated, DEQ set up collection facilities, recruited volunteers
and coordinated the marketing of the recyclables. The project slashed
the trash burden from the four-day festival in half and enhanced
Okemah's positive image along the way.
For
demonstrating that event recycling is both feasible and practical, the
state Department of Environmental Quality is good news for folks and
festivals in Oklahoma.
