Outstanding Achievement in Beautification & Landscaping (Annual budget greater than $100,000)
Following the suggestion of a local benefactor, the
Ardmore Beautification Council asked for citizen input last year on
what project could be done to beautify the interior of the city. After
several voiced complaints about the unattractive front entrance to the
Post Office, the Council set about turning this eyesore into a sight
for sore eyes.
Work was coordinated with the postmistress and a sweetheart
deal was struck with Planet Concrete and Big Red Containers for many
donated services and supplies. The Council also has made several
recommendations that will help the post office maintain attractive
grounds.
The
judges praised the idea of actually asking the community what project
the group should do and noted the difference this very visible project
has made. For sending a blueprint special delivery to the rest of the
state about giving a tired old building a fresh and inviting approach,
once again the Ardmore Beautification Council is good news for
Oklahoma.
