Community Effort: Population up to 20,000 - City of Sand Springs
There’s a “Redbud Renaissance” now underway in Sand Springs that eventually promises to become a stunning announcement of the community’s commitment to the environment and beautification.
The first of what will be hundreds of redbud tree plantings took place this spring at two highly visible locations in a unique effort that combined major community goals with partners ranging from the city’s resources to business and individuals. Within a few years, most of the major highways and thoroughfares around Sand Springs will be transformed into shady groves of the state’s official tree.
In the meantime, key goals such as economic development, unifying sectors of the city, and projecting a positive image for the city are taking root along with the trees.
Our judges hailed the partnerships behind this as a winning combination. We call the Redbud Renaissance in Sand Springs an on-growing story of good news for Oklahoma.
