Under the direction of a small handful of women in Choctaw County two years ago, 89 tons of trash were removed and the activities earned KOB’s Great American Cleanup Award for “best first-time effort.”
Those results clearly weren’t satisfying enough because after a year-long volunteer recruitment drive a massive force of 2,400 volunteers this past April managed to remove an incredible 263 tons of trash, more than tripling the first year’s total.
Our judges wrote that this organization “shows awesome strength with great volunteer involvement, strategic partnerships and ultimate success.” We say it’s cleaning up as a model of good news for others to emulate throughout Oklahoma.
