Jean Carriker, a trustee and reading chair with the Ardmore Beautification Council, used her position as an adjunct professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University to recruit her elementary education class students to read to the kids at an Ardmore elementary school.
Mrs. Carriker’s teachers-to-be presented topics such as recycling, litter and wildflowers as discussion-oriented lessons to the elementary students while the teachers evaluated their performances. The results were nothing but impressive for the student teachers, the third graders and the aims of the Ardmore Beautification Council.
Our judges say, this is a really good application of classroom knowledge in a field test. We say Jean Carriker’s innovative approach resulted in a straight-A report card of good news for Oklahoma Schools.
