| Accepting for Fredrick Rotary Club (L to R): Richard Ryan, Sharon Bennett and Dana Greer
Nonprofit Organization Award (annual budget less than $100,000) for Education & Promotion - The Fredrick Rotary Club
Along with conducting a successful citywide spring clean-up as part of the Great American Cleanup, the Rotary Club of Frederick decided to use the effort as and opportunity to teach students about the importance of not littering and helping to keep their town clean.
The cornerstone of the education program was an imaginative coloring book developed by artist and Rotarian Larry Greer along with his wife Dana. The Rotary Club presented the coloring books to K through 4th graders along with a short program on the harmful effects of litter. The positive student response was evident a few weeks later when these kids helped with the spring clean up and did wonders with their own yards and neighborhoods.
The coloring book, which will be redistributed next year, will be one of many positive legacies of Larry Greer who unexpectedly passed away in the fall of 2005. His artistic talent and clever approach will continue to be appreciated as more children have fun while learning about litter.
For a colorful solution with an ongoing impact, the Frederick Rotary Club’s keep Oklahoma Beautiful Coloring Book continues to draw good news for Oklahoma.
