Community Effort Award (population 10,000-25,000) - City of Ardmore: "Go Green Day"
Proving
that a great plan and motivated citizens can trump raw, wet weather any
day, Ardmore’s inaugural “Go-Green Day” event in March generated many
impressive results despite its modest number of participants.
More
than 34-hundred pounds of litter and recyclable items were collected as
part of a three-pronged approach that included free pick-ups of
residential appliances. By working with an array of generous sponsors
and getting thousands of dollars worth of free advertising, this new
project of the Ardmore Beautification Council was carried off without a
budget.
One
judge noted the idea began with one person at KICM radio and quickly
grew to become a major environmental awareness campaign that was bound
to have an increasing impact in the years to come.
City
of Ardmore and your “Go-Green Day” backers, the excellence in your
performance is an inspiration to communities across Oklahoma, and we
salute you!
