Last year’s Keep
Oklahoma Beautiful Vanguard Award winner for its complete commitment to
sustainability programming has stepped it up even higher over the past
year. As one judge put it, “The best just keeps getting better!” Now
with a full-time sustainability coordinator to manage campus-wide
“green” activities for the university community, as well as draw grant
monies and special events to the campus, UCO is the state’s “gold
standard” for sustainability. Already a wind-powered campus, a number
of new programs are in place and planning now is underway to use solar
and geothermal energy options as well. Throw in more than 50 hours of
environmental sustainability course work, and the University of Central
Oklahoma is a textbook example of environmental excellence!
