When someone with the stature of Sid Patterson calls a person “instrumental in the development of Up With Trees” and says he is the perfect volunteer, well, it’s quite a compliment. Tulsan John Kahre is in his third decade of service to that nationally recognized organization, continuing to lead the way for others to follow.
Kahre not only has served as Up With Trees president for two terms, he has pursued his vision to offer formal arboricultural training to volunteers. The newly-launched Citizen Forester program features John as one of several certified professionals providing 16 hours of classroom and in-the-field training.
Along with leading a number of trailblazing projects over the years, he also has served on the boards of the Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden, the Tulsa Garden Center, the Tree Advisory Committee, the Horticulture Industry Show, and the Oklahoma Urban and Community Forestry Council.
For being the reliable educator and leader of volunteers, as well as a living treasure to Tulsa, congratulations to John Kahre, our 2009 Champion Volunteer!
