Southern Nazarene University Students Win State Wide Anti-Litter Video Contest
Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) recently recognized Marshall Jones and Noah McKinney of Southern Nazarene University for their End Litter Video. End Litter is a statewide contest for high school and college students to engage others in the fight against littering through a creative video.
Contestants are asked to grab their video cameras and develop a 30 second PSA to convey that littering is costly, deplorable, illegal and harmful to Oklahoma.
Through the video the students used statistical data accompanied by stop motion editing to demonstrate the accumulation of waste and litter. Jones and McKinney are students of Jim Smith who teaches Mass Communication in the Division of Cultural and Communication Studies at SNU.
A ceremony was held on April 21, 2016 to recognize the students for their hard work and creativity. Mike Patterson, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Director and Jeanette Nance, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Executive Director presented the students with the monetary prize.
End Litter is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Winning groups receive a $750 prize. Additionally, Oklahoma State Parks donates a night’s stay to the teacher of the winning group.
The students will be recognized at the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful 26th Annual Environmental Excellence Celebration to be held November 17, 2016.
“We are extremely proud of the videos this year's winners have created!” said Jeanette Nance.“Such talent is a pleasure to recognize. Congratulations to our 2015 winners, great work!”
