OKC COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – MARGARET ANNIS BOYS TRUST
A lasting legacy of beauty for the public lands in Oklahoma County is the living proof of accomplishment for the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s Margaret Annis Boys Trust. The tenth anniversary of the program shows over one million dollars distributed for more than 100 worthy projects and a total value estimated to be three times that amount.
Beneficiary organizations are required to have a vested interest in the project, be able to contribute cash and materials, and provide on-going maintenance.

The improvements include city gateways, parks, medians, neighborhood entries, street- and highwayscapes, and special gardens.

Nancy Anthony, executive director of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation was joined by her husband Bob Anthony (OK Corporation Commissioner) at the KOB Banquet where the Foundation picked up two 2001 awards for environmental excellence.

The program has sparked numerous collaborations among volunteer groups, schools, city and county governments, and other community organizations. A judge summed it up as “A worthy organization which helps the metro communities improve their attractiveness and quality of life.”

SHAWNEE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
The Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee successfully produced two ambitious projects this past January that will have a positive impact for many years to come.
After noting that many people were having trouble growing trees to maturity, the committee published “Trees for the Shawnee Area,” a detailed booklet about the limited number of trees suitable for the soil and climate of the area.
The committee also staged “Gardening with the Experts,” a day-long symposium on trees, plants, vegetable gardens and ponds that attracted 125 enthusiastic participants.

A number of Shawnee organizations, committees, businesses and individuals joined forces to beautify the city. The photo shows one of many projects undertaken.

Tom Terry, a member of the Shawnee Beautification Committee accepted the KOB award of excellence for Community Effort.
|
Our judges called the committee’s work “A good example of how an effective beautification group can rally the support of volunteers, business entities and other civic groups for the betterment of the community.” THE GREATER SHAWNEE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE IS GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S TREES AND GARDENS!
