Congratulations to our 2007 Award Winners!


Keep Oklahoma Beautiful's 17th Annual Environmental Awards program will recognize the good works of Oklahomans for their exceptional efforts in the areas of environmental improvement, beautification & landscaping and environmental education & promotion - completed during the 12-month period ending July 31, 2007.

Awards will be presented on Monday November 19, 2007 during the KOB Awards Recognition Banquet at the Oklahoma City Marriott.

ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE CATEGORIES
Community Effort A project that involved cooperative effort by a variety of groups and organizations resulting in undeniable community improvements. Compete in one of four population ranges. Four awards given.

Media Award based on the demonstrated impact of the attention given to your efforts by a media organization...or a project designed by and undertaken by a media organization. One award given.

Youth Group Awards given for projects by youth groups (completed with minimal adult participation) - competition divided into two age ranges. Two awards given.

Government Programs One award given in each of these four subcategories: State, Local, County and Tribal.

Individual Achievement Don't be shy, nominate yourself. One youth (<18 yrs) and one adult award given.

Business Anything from a small business to a major corporation...two subcategories according to number of employees. Two awards given.

Non-profit Organizations* Civic clubs, neighborhood associations, churches, special interest groups, etc. Two categories according to annual budget. Six awards given.

Educational Institutions * Includes all educational institutions from pre-school to the university level. Three awards given.

The categories marked * have three subcategories or project types:

Environmental Improvement Includes projects, programs, campaigns designed to reduce, prevent and control litter; improve water or air quality, reduce waste, etc.

Beautification & Landscaping Includes cleanup, planting, landscaping, maintenance and historical preservation and restoration.

Education & Promotion Includes any type of educational or promotional campaign designed to enlighten the public about environmental issues.


NOMINATE FOR SPECIAL KOB AWARDS
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Given to an individual for a body of work that has spanned at least 25 years, and that has shown outstanding environmental stewardship. The efforts must have produced obvious improvements, enhancements and/or preservation of Oklahoma's environment.

FIRST LADY'S AWARD Presented to a community, organization or individual for developing an innovative grassroots project focused on working partnerships---a project that engages individuals to take responsibility for improving local conditions.

HOW TO ENTER

GENERAL - Submit one original and one complete copy of your entry. Entries received without a copy will be returned. Prepare a one page (may be front & back) typed summary followed by no more than ten (10) pages of supporting materials. Complete the Entry form (available in this brochure and online) and attach it to the original; attach a copy to your entry copy. Supporting materials may include promotional items, newspaper clippings, letters, photographs, slides, videotapes, disks and other materials that help describe the entry. Tapes and disks will be considered 3 pages. There is no entry fee.

FORMAT - Submit an entry that is no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches and is soft-bound in some fashion - either in a folder, soft cover with brads or spirals or simply stapled. Please, no hard cover, 3-ring binders.

PHOTOS - All entries must contain at least two photographs. Identify any persons in the photos. Individual Achievement entries must include a "head & shoulders" photo of the nominee. Entries which describe improvement must contain "before" and "after" photos.

Winners will be asked to submit 5-6 representative photos in a digital format one month prior to the Awards Banquet.

NOTIFICATION - Receipt of your entry will be acknowledged. Winners and non-winners will be notified by 2nd week in September.

ONLY COPIES RETURNED - All original entries become the property of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, Inc. If you wish to have your copy returned to you, you must include a self-addressed envelope stamped with sufficient postage for its return.

HOW ENTRIES ARE SCORED - Judging Criteria

A panel of judges will review all qualified entries. Using an evaluation guide, the judges score each entry based on the criteria listed below. A perfect score is 100. The highest-scoring entry (above 75) in each category is an Award of Excellence winner.

Maximum of 10 points each:
  • Does project show planning, originality, imagination?
  • Will project have a lasting, positive impact
  • Is it obvious how the undertaking progressed from start to finish?
  • Is there evidence of outstanding commitment to goals?
  • Were citizens, students and/or volunteers involved?
  • Can the project be replicated?
  • Are the benefits of the project clearly described in the entry?

    Maximum of 5 points each:
  • Are relevant supporting materials included?
  • Does the entry include all requested information?
  • Was an obvious effort made to prepare the entry?

    In addition... judges may assign up to 5 points each for no more than three additional reasons why the entry deserves points toward an award.
