OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
|
In order to see the results of the Oklahoma Community Development Project Program, you have to get off the interstates and take some back roads. Then you’ll see why the Oklahoma Department of Commerce is so excited about its fledgling five-year program of workshops, suggestions and award incentives aimed at Oklahoma’s smaller communities.
You’ll admire the new gateway signage, plantings and other improvements that clearly have a positive impact on how the citizens feel about their communities. In the years ahead, you’ll notice the new or enhanced parks, the biking paths and recreational facilities. You’ll appreciate the projects to restore and preserve historical sites that are important to the communities. And perhaps you’ll be among the visitors to the community events that will arise or be strengthened through the program.

Education & Promotion
OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Although the stated mission of the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality says nothing about supporting and promoting education, its dedicated workers frequently go beyond the proverbial extra mile for schools and groups seeking information on various environmental concerns.
In the past year, DEQ’s efforts ranged from programs and contests for students in grades K through 12, to producing posters and a planning guide to support community celebrations of “America Recycles Day.” Throughout the state, Oklahomans used the department’s “Use Less Stuff” waste reduction campaign and learned from the many presentations and exhibits provided by DEQ for special events.
Even more impressive is the behind the scenes support, wisdom and manpower DEQ employees donate to organizations such as Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and others. For soaring beyond its mission to administer environmental laws, THE OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND ITS EMPLOYEES ARE GOOD NEWS FOR EXPANDING ENVIRONMENTAL KNOWLEDGE IN OKLAHOMA!

OK DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S ANNUAL "TRASH-OFF"
Oh what a beautiful morning it is in Oklahoma the day after the Department of Transportation’s annual statewide TRASH-OFF each April. The 14th version of the spring cleanup this year proudly announced the hard work of 188 participating communities in 19 counties, 30 state parks, three Corps of Engineers lakes and thousands of Adopt-A-Highway volunteers.
Administered by ODOT’s Beautification Office, TRASH-OFF makes good use of in-state partnerships, publicity and recycled hubcap awards to attract a growing number of volunteers each year. The true keys to success, however, are the communities, neighborhood volunteers, park rangers, city employees and others who take the opportunity and creatively run with it.
For changing bad habits and trading trash for tributes, ODOT’S ANNUAL “TRASH-OFF” IS GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S PUBLIC AREAS AND ROADSIDES!
