MIAMI NEWS-RECORD

Miami New-Record logo One of the state’s biggest environmental stories for the past decade has been the Tar Creek Superfund site, just north of Miami. Understanding and communicating the complicated story has been a challenge successfully met by Miami News-Record publisher Floyd Jernigan and his staff.

Randy Petersen -managing editor- Miami News-Record
Randy Petersen, managing editor of the Miami News Record accepted the KOB award of excellence for his newspaper's coverage of environmental issues in and around the Miami area.
The newspaper has researched and reported the story from the points of view of the government agencies, the tribes, the towns, citizen groups, schools and the general public. The stories explained the ins and outs of the Superfund with thoroughness and clarity.

The News-Record also stays on top of all environmental events and issues affecting the region, greatly aiding public awareness of Earth-friendly opportunities such as recycling days and solid waste days.

Our judges commended the newspaper for providing “a very important service to a concerned citizenry – giving the ‘true scoop’ about the serious environmental problem [of the Superfund].” THE MIAMI NEWS-RECORD NOT ONLY PUBLISHES THE NEWS, IT IS GOOD NEWS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA!
