Patty Daniel, of Team Up to Clean Up, is being honored in the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful “Volunteer Spotlight” during March.
Motorists driving along Hwy 9 near Lake Eufaula and Longview in the past few years have most likely seen an energetic lady picking up litter on the roadside. Disgusted by the accumulation of trash in this scenic area, Patty decided it was up to her to beautify the area. From this, she initiated the local anti-litter and recycling group Team Up to Clean Up.
Patty’s individual efforts have now been multiplied by more than 250 volunteers, businesses and government agencies working together in 4 annual events to remove litter and raise awareness of the environment. In 2009, Team Up to Clean Up removed and recycled nearly 20 tons of litter and debris.
Fellow volunteer Pam Husky describes Patty as “a dynamo. She visits schools, city council meetings, businesses and neighborhoods to educate and influence the community. We appreciate Patty’s energy, intelligence, determination and time.”
