Mixed Ages

Mixed Ages- Youth Volunteer Corps of Tulsa Youth Volunteer Corps
of Tulsa

The Youth Volunteer Corps of Tulsa organizes many different programs during the year. Volunteers ranging in age from 6 to 18 take part in several events such as Paint the Town, an activity that paints over graffiti on various walls and buildings throughout Tulsa and other litter clean-up events.

As part of Operation Clean Sweep last April 15th, Youth Volunteer Corps asked for the worst litter site in Tulsa...and they got it. The 500-acre site just east of the OSU-Tulsa Campus had been an eyesore for decades. The 200 YVC volunteers started work early in the morning, and they didn’t stop until every piece of trash had been picked up. Their 70-ton haul included old furniture, tires, an abandoned boat, and old televisions. The tireless efforts of the YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS OF TULSA IS GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S ENVIRONMENT!

Hobart Trash Container Project
When the Hobart Beautification Commission decided they wanted to involve school children in their efforts to clean up and beautify their town, it didn’t take long for the idea to catch on. Two Commission members started with the idea of putting out special trash containers. The Hobart Water Treatment Plant donated white water barrels, and the high school art teacher took on the project. Children in different youth groups around the city, middle school art students, and high school art students all received several barrels. Using their own designs, the students painted the barrels. Then the Beautification Commission placed the brand new, hand-painted trashcans all around Hobart.

Now there’s less litter in Hobart because people are using the new conveniently located containers. And even more importantly, Hobart students have learned a very valuable lesson in community pride. THE HOBART TRASH CONTAINER PROJECT IS GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S ENVIRONMENT!

Wynnewood Junior Main Street
When there’s a community project in Wynnewood, the Wynnewood Junior Main Street group will always be there to help. Whether it’s a “Trash Off Day” or time to decorate downtown for a fall festival, Junior Main Streeters turn out in droves, often bringing as many as 80 to 100 volunteers to a project. They have helped renovate buildings downtown, learning history and gaining pride in their community. When they organized the Hall of Trees, they cleaned out an unused office building and gathered decorated Christmas trees from local donors. They arranged and manned the display, which helped to raise funds for the Angel Tree program. The Wynnewood Junior Main Streeters’ involvement in city events helps them know that they are an important part of the community... AND THAT’S VERY GOOD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMA’S ENVIRONMENT!
